I was asked in this interview which fictional characters reminded me of Emily Calby (from the award-winning The Hiding Girl and The Girl in Cell 49B). I mentioned Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz because, like Emily, she was courageous and relentless in pursuing her goal even though she was vulnerable and afraid. And like Dorothy, Emily meets some interesting friends along her journey. Then I came across this hilarious Wizard of Oz TV description on FB and thought, “Hm, maybe Dorothy and Emily have even more in common than I realized.”
